According to the Philippine News Agency, the administration of President Duterte aims to provide free scholarship by investing more funds on tech-voc courses offered by Technical Education and Skills Development Authority or TESDA. This will benefit over 400,000 people every year.
Alvin Feliciano, TESDA Deputy Director General reiterated that the government targets beneficiaries for free tech-voc courses including persons with disabilities, rehabilitated drug dependents, solo parents, and many others.
This year, Php6.9 billion has been allocated by the government to fund the free tech-voc courses. The fund was included in the budget of the Commission on Higher Education and will be released to TESDA by June or July.
Beneficiaries for the free TESDA scholarship will receive Php160 daily allowance, tool kits, assessments and training insurance. The insurance is a great help for trainees so that they will be protected and can receive insurance claims in case they get hurt during the training.

This is also the first time that TESDA in cooperation with the government will give tool kits to the trainees. Giving them tool kits is a big help in case they want to start a small business after completing the course.
In addition, the president of the Asian Development Bank, Takehiko Nakao said that they are willing to help the government push through the free scholarship program for tech-voc courses.
Feliciano believes that through the TESDA tech-voc courses, many Filipinos will be encouraged to enroll and undergo training and make their own living after completing the course. In fact, many individuals who have trained with TESDA are now working in foreign countries, while others have started their own businesses.
Thus, if you are interested to avail the free scholarship offered by TESDA, the best thing to do is to visit the nearest TESDA office in your area and inquire for the available courses they offer.
